TOKYO, Oct 12 (Reuters) - The Nikkei share average extended gains on Wednesday after posting its biggest one-day rise in a year as investors bought banks and real estate firms, such as Mitsui Fudosan Co., cheered by strong machinery orders data a day earlier that reaffirmed confidence in the economy.

Deanne Dobbs Venable, considered Columbia s first lady of real estate by many of her colleagues, died Monday of lung cancer.Friends and family of Venable, the executive vice president for the Greater Columbia Association of Realtors, said Tuesday that she was diagnosed with cancer about eight weeks ago.
